Singrenacocha receives international recognition at the ICRT LATA Responsible Tourism Awards 2026
The experience linked to the Singrenacocha lagoon won the silver medal in the "Climate Change Adaptation" category, highlighting a model that considers the challenges brought by this phenomenon, built alongside the communities, and aimed at generating a positive impact on the territory.
VIPAC Travel, in alliance with the Asociación Jesús Obrero – CCAIJO and the communities of Yanacancha and Cuyuni, has been recognized at the
2026 ICRT LATA Responsible Tourism Awards, obtaining the silver medal in the "Climate Change Adaptation" category, one of the most relevant recognitions for responsible tourism in Latin America.
The announcement was made during the official awards gala organized by the Latin American Travel Association (LATA), which each year distinguishes initiatives capable of demonstrating how tourism can tangibly contribute to the well-being of people, the conservation of territories, and the sustainable development of destinations.
This recognition highlights the work developed around the
Singrenacocha lake, an experience located in the south of the Cusco region that is born from the territory and has been jointly built by local communities, civil society organizations, and the private sector, under a shared vision of responsible tourism.
A recognition of the capacity for adaptation
The category in which the initiative was recognized highlights projects that respond innovatively to the challenges posed by climate change for tourist destinations. As noted by the jury of the ICRT LATA Responsible Tourism Awards, Peru has lost more than
50% of its tropical glacier surface area over the last few decades, a reality that has been transforming ecosystems, landscapes, and local dynamics. This scenario is also changing the way we conceive travel and design our experiences, pushing us to seek alternatives that respond more responsibly to the environmental and social challenges of the destinations we visit.
In this context, the judges valued the creation of an alternative experience, developed through the joint work of
local actors, communities, and strategic allies. Likewise, they highlighted the leadership shown to drive a tourism model that contributes to adaptation to the effects of climate change, promoting new opportunities for communities, strengthening the sustainable management of the territory and favoring more responsible experiences for those who visit the region.
An achievement built on collaboration
More than recognizing a route or a destination, this award highlights a way of building tourism. Since its inception, the Singrenacocha lagoon has been conceived as an initiative based on the active participation of local communities, integrating knowledge of the territory, shared management, and a long-term vision aimed at generating benefits for those who inhabit the area.
This proposal is developed through coordinated work between local communities, civil society, and the private sector, consolidating a model where conservation, cultural identity, and local economic development advance together.
At the same time, it proposes a different way of touring destinations, where the traveler not only discovers extraordinary landscapes but also better understands the space, its people, and the challenges it faces. This approach has allowed the experience to maintain an authentic connection with the territory, promoting tourism that generates value for visitors and communities.
