Singrenacocha: An Experience Born from the Territory and Internationally Recognized

June 1, 2026

There are journeys whose value transcends the route itself and begins to reveal itself in the way a territory manages to connect landscape, community, and purpose-driven tourism.

In the southern region of Cusco, this vision has found new international recognition today. VIPAC Travel, working jointly with CCAIJO and the communities of Cuyuni and Yanacancha, has been selected as a finalist in the
ICRT LATA Responsible Tourism Awards 2026, standing out among various initiatives from across Latin America.

This joint recognition celebrates the experience developed at the Singrenacocha lagoon: a route that invites travelers to discover one of the most authentic high-Andean settings in Cusco, under a tourism model where communities are active participants in local development.

In an industry where the contemporary traveler seeks deeper connections with destinations, experiences capable of integrating nature, culture, and local participation are becoming increasingly relevant. Today, true luxury also lies in accessing places that preserve their identity and allow for an understanding of the territory from a more human and conscious perspective.

At the foot of the snow-capped Colque Cruz mountain and near the snow-capped Ausangate—one of the most important apus in the Andean world—Singrenacocha remains sheltered among high-altitude wetlands, high-Andean landscapes, and paths that still retain the silent rhythm of the mountain. Far from traditional circuits, the journey reveals an ecosystem where nature and daily life remain deeply intertwined.

However, the true value of this experience begins long before reaching the lagoon.

Led by VIPAC Travel and the Asociación Jesús Obrero – CCAIJO, this visit is built alongside the farming communities of Cuyuni and Yanacancha, integrating local knowledge, community participation, and shared management. In Cuyuni, the community offers a culinary experience tied to the territory. In Yanacancha, communal dynamics keep alive a direct relationship with the land, the mountain, and the conservation of this high-altitude ecosystem.

More than just developing a tourist route, Singrenacocha represents a different way of structuring travel. It is one where communities, local organizations, guides, visitors, and the territory form part of the same ecosystem, articulated by respect, collaboration, and authenticity, and where everyone contributes to developing sustainable tourism.

Being a finalist for this award acknowledges far more than a route. It celebrates a way of doing tourism where conservation, cultural identity, and local development naturally intertwine, creating a space where every traveler can also take an active role by contributing to the social and economic growth of the host communities.
